Research shows that most people wait until they’re actually buying
a car before they think about getting a car insurance quote.
Research also shows that smell is the sense most closely connected with memory formation.
So we created ads scented with new car smell for Liberty Mutual Insurance.
We figured as people test drove new cars, the new car smell would trigger subconscious
memories about the Liberty Mutual ad they previously saw.

Direct mail advertisements can get pricey.
All that paper, ink, postage, and packaging costs can add up.
So we took a demonstrative approach with the Liberty Mutual brand
message “Only pay for what you need,” by releasing the most
cost-efficient direct mail advertisement possible.
